Hi, I’m Andrew

Mayor of Edmonton

Together with City Council, I'm building a stronger, safer, more affordable city that Edmontonians are proud to call home.

My Priorities for Edmonton

We can build a stronger Edmonton, but we have to work together to do it. In collaboration with City Council, we have worked with City Council to have created a number of shared goals that will be our focus over the next four years. Together, we can achieve more for all Edmontonians.

My statement on the devastating road incidents that happened in Edmonton and Calgary this week.

My heart goes out to Edmontonians and Calgarians, as both our cities grapple with two devastating road incidents that happened this week.

On Wednesday, a motorcycle crashed into a bus shelter in Edmonton, claiming an innocent life and seriously injuring a baby. And just yesterday, a bus collision in Calgary resulted in the death of 3 people and injured 16 others.

Words cannot truly express the pain and grief felt by the loved ones of these victims. I extend my condolences to them and hope for fast healing for all those recovering.

While these tragic incidents are under investigation, I want to assure Edmontonians that I am standing with you as we navigate these difficult events. I’ve also spoken with Mayor Farkas to extend my support and well wishes to the people of Calgary.

Thank you to the first responders for reacting  quickly and preventing this tragedy from escalating. Your heroism is deeply appreciated.

I will continue advocating to provincial leaders about road safety and calling on them to support municipalities with the proper tools to stop the rising number of deaths on our roads.

My statement on Canada’s counter tariffs on U.S. goods.

Today, the Federal Government launched Canada’s counter tariffs in response to the United States attack on Canadian businesses, workers, and our country’s economy.

Months of good-faith trade talks by our federal leaders ended in an outcome that many Canadians did not hope for, but have to confront. The direction of our southern neighbours has meant uncertainty for many in the city, province, and country.

For Edmontonians, this trade war raises questions about the financial future of businesses and cost of living for consumers, families, and workers alike.

I want to assure those directly and indirectly affected by this news that the City stands with you. We will navigate this moment together, just like we have countless times in the past.

I echo the same message to Edmontonians that Prime Minister Mark Carney has been saying to the nation: now is the time for us to unite and work together to build a stronger Canada, from coast to coast.

I encourage all Edmontonians to continue supporting local businesses and choose Canadian products whenever possible.

My Recent Advocacy

Strong cities are built through strong partnerships at every level of government. As Mayor, I collaborate with municipal, provincial, and federal leaders to advance our city’s priorities. This includes writing letters to other orders of government outlining our needs, challenges, and opportunities. Explore my recent advocacy efforts on issues that matter most to our community.

Land Acknowledgement

While I often express aspirations for the City’s present and future status, it is imperative to also acknowledge our history, and the painful legacies and ongoing consequences of settler colonialism against Indigenous communities,  that has shaped Edmonton’s story.

First and foremost, I acknowledge that the traditional land on which we live, work and share joy in is situated in Treaty Six Territory - the ancestral homeland of Indigenous People’s, such as the nêhiyaw (Cree), Dené, Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Nakota Isga  (Nakota Sioux), and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), who have stewarded this territory for centuries. I also acknowledge Edmonton as the Métis’ homeland and the home of one of the largest communities of Inuit south of the 60th parallel.

With the privilege to lead Edmonton, I want to emphasize that our city is committed to the journey of reconciliation, rectifying the harm and generational effects of settler colonialism, ushering in a future that promises a place for all peoples to share Edmonton as a home.

Together we call upon all of our collective, honoured traditions and spirits to work in building a great city for today and future generations.
